"Never meet your heroes, stop reading about them too, cos you die a little every time you do" is a line from a song by Simon Clark, of the Milk Teeth/Hunger Pangs/ Jackal Pack fame... coffee drinker, smoker and guitarist extraordinaire, collector of follies and information, and the most wonderful friend a man could have. Here's to him and new friends like him. His song "Never meet you rheroes" has been echoing through me since I met Patti Smith after her talk with Geoff Dyer. She isn't a hero so I felt justified in not taking his advice. I read her book "Just Kids". Still don't know how I feel about it.
